Dental Implants New York City

Dental implants are changing the way people live. They are designed to provide a foundation for replacement teeth that look, feel, and function like natural teeth. The person who has lost teeth regains the ability to eat virtually anything, knowing that teeth appear natural and that facial contours will be preserved. Patients with dental implants can smile with confidence.

What Are Dental Implants?

The implants themselves are tiny titanium posts that are surgically placed into the jawbone where teeth are missing. These metal anchors act as tooth root substitutes. The bone bonds with the titanium, creating a strong foundation for artificial teeth. Small posts that protrude through the gums are then attached to the implant. These posts provide stable anchors for artificial replacement teeth.

Implants also help preserve facial structure, preventing bone deterioration that occurs when teeth are missing.

The Surgical Procedure

For most patients, the placement of dental implants involves two surgical procedures. First, implants are placed within your jawbone. For the first three to six months following surgery, the implants are beneath the surface of the gums gradually bonding with the jawbone. You should be able to wear temporary dentures and eat a soft diet during this time. At the same time, your dentist is forming new replacement teeth.

After the implant has bonded to the jawbone, the second phase begins. Dr. Roth will uncover the implants and attach small posts that protrude through the gums and will act as anchors for the artificial teeth. When the artificial teeth are placed, these posts will not be seen. The entire procedure usually takes six to eight months. Most patients experience minimal disruption in their daily life.

Surgical Advances

Using the most recent advances in dental implant technology, Dr. Roth is able to place single stage implants. These implants do not require a second procedure to uncover them, but do require a minimum of six weeks of healing time before artificial teeth are placed. There are even situations where the implants can be placed at the same time as a tooth extraction – further minimizing the number of surgical procedures.

Dental Implant placement is a team effort between an oral and maxillofacial surgeon and a restorative dentist. While Dr. Roth performs the actual implant surgery, initial tooth extractions, and bone grafting if necessary, the restorative dentist (your dentist) fits and makes the permanent prosthesis. Your dentist will also make any temporary prosthesis needed during the implant process.

What Types Of Prosthesis Are Available?

A single prosthesis (crown) is used to replace one missing tooth – each prosthetic tooth attaches to its own implant. A partial prosthesis (fixed bridge) can replace two or more teeth and may require only two or three implants. A complete dental prosthesis (fixed bridge) replaces all the teeth in your upper or lower jaw. The number of implants varies depending upon which type of complete prosthesis (removable or fixed) is recommended. A removable prosthesis (over denture) attaches to a bar or ball in socket attachments, whereas a fixed prosthesis is permanent and removable only by the dentist.

Dr. Roth performs in-office implant surgery in a hospital-style operating suite, thus optimizing the level of sterility. Inpatient hospital implant surgery is for patients who have special medical or anesthetic needs or for those who need extensive bone grafting from the jaw, hip or tibia.

Why Dental Implants?

Once you learn about dental implants, you finally realize there is a way to improve your life. When you lose several teeth – whether it’s a new situation or something you have lived with for years – chances are you have never become fully accustomed to losing such a vital part of yourself.

Dental implants can be your doorway to renewed self-confidence and peace of mind.

A Swedish scientist and orthopedic surgeon, Dr. Per-Ingvar Branemark, developed this concept for oral rehabilitation more than 35 years ago. With his pioneering research, Dr. Branemark opened the door to a lifetime of renewed comfort and self-confidence for millions of individuals facing the frustration and embarrassment of tooth loss.

Why Select Dental Implants Over More Traditional Types Of Restorations?

There are several reasons: Why sacrifice the structure of surrounding good teeth to bridge a space? In addition, removing a denture or a “partial” at night may be inconvenient, not to mention that dentures that slip can be uncomfortable and rather embarrassing.

Are You A Candidate For Implants?

If you are considering implants, your mouth must be examined thoroughly and your medical and dental history reviewed. If your mouth is not ideal for implants, ways of improving outcome, such as bone grafting, may be recommended.

What Type Of Anesthesia Is Used?

The majority of dental implants and bone graft can be performed in the office under local anesthesia, with or without general anesthesia.

Do Implants Need Special Care?

Once the implants are in place, they will serve you well for many years if you take care of them and keep your mouth healthy. This means taking the time for good oral hygiene (brushing and flossing) and keeping regular appointments with your dental specialists.

Dr. Roth left his family vacation and drove 2 hours back to NYC to help me with my severe tooth pain. I wasn't even a patient of his!!! He was covering for my dentist at the time!!! He was so sincere, kind and obviously knew exactly what he was doing. Who leaves their vacation to help a stranger???!! And he did it with a smile!!! Can't say enough good things about Dr. Roth. He's amazing and loves what he does and genuinely cares about people. Love him to pieces. Thank you Dr. Roth. You gave up your vacation to help me. Enough said. Recommend to EVERYONE.

Amazing is the best way I can describe Dr. Roth and his entire staff. Having had multiple root canals in the past, I can tell you that when my dentist told me I needed another one due to an infection below the tooth, I was devastated at the prospect of having another. And I basically put off going to see a specialist until my infection had become so bad that I was no longer able to eat. I received a referral from a friend who had seen Dr. Roth and I will tell you that my experience with Dr. Roth has resulted in eliminating all my fears of seeing the dentist. Dr. Roth and his staff took the time to explain exactly what I should expect and although I was skeptical when he told me that his office was a painless one, after having gone through the first part of my procedure, I can unequivocally state that my experience was truly a painless one. I highly recommend Dr. Roth to anyone who, like myself, has a fear or anxiety over going to the dentist. My experience with Dr. Roth has eliminated almost any fear and anxiety I previously had. Thank you Dr. Roth and staff.

After a nightmarish experience with another dentist, Dr. Roth made time to see me, relieved my pain, was kind, professional, efficient -- after my poor treatment at the hands of another dental office, his good humor, patience, and professionalism were an extraordinary comfort. He was honest about my dental needs, the procedures, and the possible outcomes. I felt that he was extremely trustworthy, and I appreciated his office and dental staff, who worked with me to ensure that I got the emergency treatment I required, without bankrupting me or throwing me into financial chaos. They followed up with me every day for a number of days, and I felt sincerely cared for. I will recommend Dr. Roth to anyone who needs dental care.

Dr. Roth is my hero. I am a veteran of multiple dental treatments--extensive treatment after a fairly serious injury (multiple surgeries, bone grafts, serious bridge work), repair of broken teeth after a fall from a horse (I am not lucky with my teeth), plus all the usual treatments--cavities, root canals--that add up over a lifetime. So I know what I am talking about dentist-wise. Dr. Roth came extraordinarily well-recommended from top dentists, dental professors, and professional groups, and the work he did on me gets raves from my other dentists (perio, prostho)--and me too. Dr. Roth is a dream dentist, with an exquisite touch and the nicest, easiest, most confidence-inspiring manner you can imagine. Painless ( a numbing ace, I hate that palate thing and it didn't hurt (I hate that palate thing)), a short and on-time appointment, a belief that a patient should feel no pain, and nice to spend the time with. What a root canal. Dr. Roth is the ideal dentist.

Dr.Roth was both skillful and compassionate when my elderly father was brought there for two complicated root canal procedures. his staff assisted my father, who is wheelchair bound into the chair.Dr.Roth explained every procedure and technique to my father before he started. this helped put my father at ease and was much appreciated. he made sure to tell his aide and myself, including my father, what kind of discomfort may ensue from the session. thankfully, my father felt no ill effects or discomfort at all, another testament to the doctors extremely high skill level. in closing, i can't thank Dr. Roth and his staff enough, they turned what could have been a very painful and trying time for my father into something very manageable. I recommend Dr.Roth and his staff very highly.

My regular dentist crowned one of my teeth, which disrupted it and I was referred to Dr. Roth for a root canal. I was in pain and he fit me in immediately after my regular dentist referred me. In the first visit he alleviated the pain in my tooth, gave specific care instructions and I was able to schedule the follow up in a timely manner. The second visit also went very smoothly and painlessly. The work went quickly and I was done in under and hour. Dr. Roth and his staff are friendly and professional. Hopefully, I will not need any root canals in the future, but if I do I know who I will call first.
